Chad Calvert Is An Opera Man.

As resident stage director for Opera Carolina, Chad spends more of his time behind the scenes than on stage. "I really like being part of the artistic process," he says. "There are very few of us who are lucky enough to be able to work in the arts." His job encompasses a lot of juggling - from using nonverbal communication to give stage directions from non-English-speaking opera professionals to coming up with ideas for how to interpret an opera, all while managing a cast and crew that can sometimes include more than 100 people. "In opera, everything is bigger and more than straight theater," says Chad. "It's a lot of fun." Chad knows that opera can be intimidating to the uninitiated, but he's organizing a group of young professionals called Bravo! in the hopes of bringing an awareness and understanding of opera to younger generations. "It's basically opera on tap," he says. "Opera is an art form originally intended for the masses - it's not meant to be intimidating. It's a lot of fun."

What he likes most about skirt!? I like the different point of view that skirt! brings.
And wearing a skirt? My family is all Scottish; I own my own kilt and I think they're delightfully comfy, especially when it's hot.
