2016 Summer Music Drama Workshop

Opera Carolina Academy


A two-week engagement featuring tailored instruction for the aspiring singing actor and particpation in an opera production. In partnership with Mosaic Arts, the Workshop will feature a production of the children's opera Brundibar, in which Workshop students will participate and perform.*

The Music-Drama curriculum will include elementary instruction in stage combat, stagecraft skills, theater exercises & games, musical interpretation & improvisation, and elementary movement.  The Singing technique curriculum will include basic instruction in proper breathing; laryngeal positioning & relaxation; practice exercises & tactics; song interpretation; and care of the voice. In addition to regular class instruction, students may also qualify (if they choose) to participate in master classes.  

The production of Brundibar will offer students opportunity to put to work all skills and techniques explored throughout the Workshop. 

*Prior opera expreience is not required to particpate in the Workshop or in the production.

Workshop Tuition

Tuition for the week is $325. This fee includes a Music-Drama Workshop t-shirt.

Workshop Auditions & Enrollment

2015 Workshop participants may register immediately for the 2016 Workshop and do not need to audition. 

New students must audition and be accepted into the program before they may register.
