Jee Hyun Lim
Opening the New York City Opera season in 2005 as the title role in Madama Butterfly, Korean-American Jee Hyun Lim has performed the role all over the world. Most recently, she was invited to perform the role in Santiago, Chile after a very successful series of performances at the Royal Albert Hall in David Freeman's award winning production in London. Other recent performances of Madama Butterfly include productions with the Austin Lyric Opera, Syracuse Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Chautauqua Opera, the New York City Opera tour in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan and in Dublin with Lyric Opera Productions. She recently sang her first Countess Le Nozze Di Figaro with Indianapolis Opera, which she looks forward to reprising this season with Michigan Opera Theatre. Ms. Lim returned to Seoul recently to make her role debut as Donna Elvira Don Giovanni at the Seoul Arts Centre and debuted as Leila Les Pecheurs De Perles for Opera Boston. Internationally known for her portrayal of operatic heroines of Giacomo Puccini, Ms. Lim has appeared as Mimi La Bohème with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Atlanta Opera, Minnesota Opera, Kansas City Lyric Opera, Kentucky Opera Tulsa Opera, Seattle Opera and Vest Norges Opera in Bergen Norway and was invited to sing Cio-Cio San Madama Butterfly in Zagreb with the National Theater of Croatia in 2003. She has appeared as Liù Turandot with Portland Opera and looks forward to performing the same role with Orlando Opera this season. Also a skilled singer of Mozart's heroines, she has performed the role of Pamina Die Zauberflöte with Virginia Opera, Tulsa Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, New Orleans and Cincinnati Opera, and Susanna Le Nozze Di Figaro for Tulsa Opera and in Detroit and Vancouver. She has performed Zerlina Don Giovanni with the Minnesota Orchestra, Opera Pacific and Portland Opera. Other roles include Dardane The Pilgrim to Mecca, with Opera Francais NY, and Micaela Carmen with both Vest Norges Opera in Norway and an Earl's Court Production in Birmingham, England. Ms. Lim will reprise the role of Nedda Pagliacci this season when she performs the role for Syracuse Opera. Earlier in her career she debuted as Antonia Les Contest D'Hoffmann at the Spoleto Festival USA in 1991 and in the 1992/1993 seasons she sang the same role in Vittorio Rossi's production in Montreal, Marguérite Faust for Austin Lyric Opera, and Anne Trulove The Rake's Progress with New Jersey Opera Festival. She sang her first Blanche Dialogues Des Carmelites with Tulsa Opera and Nedda Pagliacci in Austin. Ms. Lim was chosen by Gian Carlo Menotti to sing the lead role in the world premiere of his opera Giorno Di Nozze at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Ms. Lim appears regularly on the concert platform. She has performed in Handel Messiah at Lincoln Center twice, and appeared in many concerts and oratorios in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Virginia, New Hampshire and Seoul. She was educated at the Seoul National University, the Juilliard School and the Juilliard Opera Centre and was the winner of the Sullivan Award. She was recently voted Artist of the Year by Syracuse Opera.
