Acclaimed for her "rich and sonorous" sound and her "moving and memorable performance, full of expression," (Pravo newspaper, Czech Republic), mezzo-soprano Jane Dutton has been engaged and re-engaged in many of the top opera houses in the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu and San Francisco Opera. A finalist in Placido Domingo's Operalia 1997 World Opera Competition in Tokyo, Jane Dutton has been awarded prizes in such competitions at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Eastern Regionals, placed second at the MacAllister Competition, the Baltimore Opera Competition, the Puccini Foundation, Opera Index Competition, and first at the Opera at Florham Guild competition. At the famed Metropolitan Opera, Miss Dutton was praised for her performance as Jordan Baker in John Harbison's The Great Gatsby, which was conducted by James Levine. Her performances in past seasons have ranged from her debut as Stephano Roméo et Juliette to Mrs. Gleaton in the Metropolitan Opera premiere of Carlisle Floyd's Susannah. Additionally at the MET, she has also appeared in Lulu, Madama Butterfly, and Rigoletto. She added the Composer Ariadne auf Naxos to her repertoire in her first engagement at the San Francisco Opera and was reengaged by the company as Sonyetka in Shostakovitch's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk. She made her New York City Opera debut as Sara Roberto Devereux. Jane Dutton made her European opera debut at the Gran Teatre Del Liceu in Barcelona as Anne Boleyn in Saint-Saëns' Henry VIII. She has been re-engaged by the Liceu each season since her debut for roles including Adalgisa Norma, Pauline Pique Dame, Gertrude Hamlet, Maddalena in Graham Vick's production of Rigoletto and Suzuki Madama Butterfly. Miss Dutton will return to the Liceu to sing Waltraute in Die Walküre. She made her debut at the Tokyo Opera Nomori in Elektra with Seiji Ozawa and was invited to participate in the 2006 Saito Kinen Festival with Maestro Ozawa. Forthcoming engagements include her role debut as Amneris in a new production of Aida with English National Opera (UK opera debut); Waltraute Die Walküre, Gran Teatre del Liceu and Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana in a new production directed by Richard Jones also for English National Opera.
