Angela Horn

American Mezzo-Soprano Angela Horn has performed to popular acclaim on four continents and is rapidly becoming one of the premiere interpreters of the role of Carmen. A Los Angeles Times review of Ms. Horn's portrayal of Carmen commented that "…Horn sang magnificently. She provided the most outstanding performance of the evening. Not only does she look the part with a spectacular figure and wild hair but carries it out with physical as well as musical energy." Ms. Horn has performed frequently with The New York City Opera, most notably in the title role of Carmen, and as Anna in Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins. In 1998, Ms. Horn was named The New York City Opera's Outstanding Artist of the Year. Recent engagements have included the reprisal of the title role in Carmen with Opera Lyra Ottawa, Emilia in Otello for Opera Omaha, Maddalena in Rigoletto with Opera Pacific and Nashville Opera, the US premiere of Flight with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Beethoven 9th Symphony with Opera Roanoke, and a return to Madison Opera for their Gala Concert. Ms. Horn was seen as the guest soloist with The Louisville Symphony in Verdi's Requiem, as the Mezzo Soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Virginia Symphony, and in the title role of Carmen with The Sioux City Symphony and The Baltimore Opera. Engagements for the 2004-2005 season included Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus with Nashville Opera, Elizabeth Procter in The Crucible with Indianapolis Opera, the Mezzo Soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Cheyenne Symphony, and a return to Madison Opera for their Gala Concert of Carmen. She also returned to Boston Lyric Opera for their reprisal of Opera Theatre of St. Louis' widely acclaimed 2003 American premiere of Jonathon Dove's Flight. Future engagements for the 2005-2006 Season include Carmen with the Vail Music Festival, Verdi's Requiem with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, Mahler's 2nd with the Harrisburg Symphony, Mozart's Requiem with Virginia Symphony, the Mezzo Soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro with Toledo Opera, and Teresa in La Sonnambula with Baltimore Opera. Ms. Horn has also performed the role of Carmen with the Florida Grand Opera, Opera Theater of Kansas City, Mississippi Opera, Dayton Opera, The National Theater of the Dominican Republic, Opera Pacific, Opera de Monte Carlo on a tour of Japan with Roberto Alagna. Ms. Horn has also performed with Florida Grand Opera, Opera Ontario, The Glimmerglass Opera, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Kentucky Opera, and The New Jersey Opera Festival. Also in demand as soloist with orchestras throughout North America, Ms. Horn has appeared with The St. Louis Symphony, The Toronto Symphony, The Long Island Philharmonic, Greensboro Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, The Bach Society of Saint Louis, The Apollo Chorus of Chicago in Orchestra Hall, The National Chorale of New York City and the American Symphony Orchestra in Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, among others. Ms. Horn received her undergraduate musical training at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City and completed her advanced vocal studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she was a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center.
