An outstanding graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts, Philadelphia, Zach Borichevsky recently made an acclaimed debut at the Santa Fe Festival as Matteo (Arabella) in Tim Albery’s production conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.
Whilst still at the Academy of Vocal Arts he sang the roles of Pelléas (Pelléas et Mélisande), Rodolfo (La bohème), Flamand (Capriccio) and created the role of Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale in the world premiere of Margaret Garwood's The Scarlet Letter.
Last season Zach made his role debut as Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with Arizona Opera - a role he later reprised at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago under Yves Abel - and his role debut as Jonathan Dale in the East Coast premiere of Kevin Puts’ opera Silent Night for Opera Philadelphia. In concert he joined the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest as Lazarus in the Dutch premiere of John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary conducted by Markuz Stenz at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, made his debut at the Aspen Music Festival with Britten’s Nocturne under Nicholas McGegan and sang his first performances of the War Requiem with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra under Lan Shui.
Current season highlights include Zach’s European operatic debut as Rodolfo in La bohème with the Finnish National Opera under Michael Güttler; he will reprise the role later in the season with Arizona Opera under Joel Revzen, and makes his role debut as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with Boston Lyric Opera under David Angus and Alfredo in La traviata with Michigan Opera. Further ahead Zach makes his UK debut as Alfredo for Glyndebourne.
In concert, he has sung performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with The Philadelphia Orchestra under Xian Zhang, premiered two new works by Edward T. Cone with the Princeton Symphony and performed the Mozart Requiem with the Symphony in C. In past summers he has travelled to Vail, Colorado and Alba, Italy for Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde. He has also performed in recital under the auspices of Lyric Fest in Philadelphia.
Zach Borichevsky has also sung with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Glimmerglass Opera and at the Castleton Festival under the baton of Lorin Maazel. He holds degrees from The George Washington University and Yale School of Music.
Many organizations have honoured Zach Borichevsky with awards including the George London Foundation, the Metropolitan Opera National Council, the Gerda Lissner Foundation, Opera Index, the Mario Lanza Foundation, Shreveport Opera and the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation. Most recently Zach was awarded second prize at the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition For Young Opera Singers 2013.
