Preview Schedule
Opera Carolina offers wonderful preview opportunities, specifically directed to adults who want to learn more about the upcoming operas each season. These previews are given in several locations: Borders Books and Music Cafe at Southpark, Borders Books and Music Cafˇ at Stonecrest, Davidson College, the Jewish Community Center and 45 minutes before each performance in the Belk Theater, Mezzanine level. Previews are given by Dr. Kay Hoke, Chair of the Fine Arts Division at Brevard College; Dr. Dan Boye, Professor at Davidson College; Lawrence Toppman, Movie Critic for The Charlotte Observer; James Meena, General Director & Principal Conductor of Opera Carolina; Teresa Robertson, Director of Education & Community Relations; and Chad Calvert, Resident Stage Director at Opera Carolina.
The previews give you information about the composer, details of the actual writing of the opera, how the music of the opera relates to the drama, and basic story elements.
The previews usually last no longer than 45 minutes and often use recorded excerpts or live music performances to help you become familiar with the music from the opera.
