Opera Carolina, the leading professional opera company in the region, launched Opera Express, its spring education-touring program, this week.

With 32 performances planned in the coming weeks, the company brings its adaptation of “The Billy Goats Gruff” to third-, fourth- and fifth-graders across Mecklenburg and Iredell counties. Opera Carolina artists will hold an interactive dialogue with students following each performance.

The Duke Energy Foundation’s The Power of Music program provides funding for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools performances. The Power of Music supports Opera Carolina’s acclaimed education programs, which reach thousands of district students. Others supporting the program are American Tire Distributors, Arts & Science Council, BB&T, Hearst Corporation, Husqvarna, King & Spalding LLP, Lance Inc., Target and Womble Carlyle.

A grant from the N.C. Arts Council supports Opera Carolina’s statewide educational touring program. Performances continue through March 30.
