A native of Atlanta, Georgia, holds both her bachelor and master of music degrees from Eastman School of Music. She spent a year at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, PA and also completed course work at Northwestern University. She was a recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation, and has won awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Connecticut Opera Guild Competition, the Portland Opera Eleanor Lieber Competition, the Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year Competition, the Mobile Opera Competition, the Opera Birmingham W. Cassell Stewart Competition, the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers at the Houston Grand Opera and the Kurt Weill Foundation Lotte Lenya Competition. Ms. Van Looy was highlighted in the 2000 New York City Lotte Lenya centennial celebration recital hosted by Teresa Stratas. She has appeared with Des Moines Metro Opera, Sarasota Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Concert Operetta Theater in Philadelphia, PA, Hidden Valley Opera in Carmel Valley, CA and the Ohio Light Opera Company. Past credits include the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rose in Lakmé, Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof, Marguerite in Faust, First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Countess Maritza, Mimi in La Bohème, Anne Sexton in Transformations and The Governess in The Turn of the Screw.
