Gordon Hawkins

A frequent soloist with major opera companies and symphonies throughout the world, Mr. Hawkins has been heard in broadcasts Live from the Metropolitan Opera as Marcello in La Boheme with Placido Domingo and Mirella Freni, as Silvano in Un Ballo in Maschera with Luciano Pavarotti and Aprile Millo, Roucher in Andrea Chenier, and Donald in Billy Budd. Internationally, performances include productions with the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Deutsche Oper of Berlin, Dusseldorf Opera, Bregenzer Festspiele, and Teatro Maestranza in Seville. Mr. Hawkins has appeared with Dallas Opera, Washington Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Pacific, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and Arizona Opera. Concert engagements include performances with the Chicago Symphony, National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, The Cincinnati Orchestra, as well as the BBC Radio Orchestra, WDR Orchestra of Hamburg and Cologne, the National Theatre Orchestra of Prague, and the Vienna Symphony.

Engagements for the 2003-2004 season included the Four Villains in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffman in Tokyo, Il Trittico in Dusseldorf, Germany, Marcello in La Boheme with Arizona Opera, Tonio/Alfio in Manitoba Opera's double bill of I Pagliacci/Cavalleria Rusticana, Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony with The Washington Chorus at the Kennedy Center, and most recently, the Royal Herald in Lohengrin with Seattle Opera. Engagements for the 2004-2005 season included the title role in Rigoletto with Michigan Opera Theatre, Miller in Louisa Miller with Dallas Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Opera Carolina, Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera with Florida Grand Opera, Tippet's Child of our Time with the Washington Chorus, and with Seattle Opera, Donner/Gunther in their 2005 Ring cycle.

Upcoming engagements for the 2005-2006 season include Amonasro in Aida with Palm Beach Opera, a return to Seattle Opera as the title role in Macbeth, and a return to Washington Opera for the title role in Porgy and Bess and as Alberich in Das Rheingold. He will also perform as the Baritone Soloist in New Orleans Opera Gala. Future engagements include a return to Houston Grand Opera and Cincinnati Opera as Amonasro in Aida and Tonio in a new production of I Pagliacci with Seattle Opera.

Mr. Hawkins performs frequently throughout Germany, engagements including Baron Scarpia with Catherine Malfitano in a new production of Tosca, the title role of Rigoletto, and a reprisal of the role of Enrico in Christof Loy's critically acclaimed new production of Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor all with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Amonasro in Aida and Il Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore with Dusseldorf Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He has also performed Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro in a new production by Jose Possi Neto for Theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the European premiere Of Mice and Men at the Bregenzer Festspiele in Austria. Recent American engagements for Mr. Hawkins have included returns to Dallas Opera for a new production of Simon Boccanegra and the title role in Rigoletto, Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera, Scarpia in Tosca with Arizona Opera, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and Amfortas in Parsifal for Seattle Opera, and the title role in MacBeth with Opera Pacific.

Mr. Hawkins orchestral engagements have included the world premiere of Jake Heggie's A Great Hope fell with the EOS orchestra of New York, returns to the St. Louis Symphony as baritone soloist to record Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the baton of Maestro Vonk, performances of Ralph Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony with the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C., and a concert of selections from American musicals with Welle WDR 4 in Cologne, Germany.

Mr. Hawkins has worked under the baton of such notable conductors as Maestros James Levine, Sir Charles Mackerras, Julius Rudel, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Lucas Foss, Nello Santi, Marcello Viotti, and Yves Abel. He was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition. Mr. Hawkins most recent recordings include the title role in Simon Boccanegra in a new production with the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts and as George Milton in the first ever recording of Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men with the Houston Grand Opera.
