Charlotte, NC - Opera Carolina has been selected to perform as part of the National Endowment for the Arts' program, Great American Voices Military Base Tour: Unforgettable Melodies from Opera & Broadway. This national initiative celebrates the best of American art by bringing professional performances of opera and musical theater to military installations nationwide. Opera Carolina's performance will take place on Friday, February 24 at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.

The program will include selections from traditional operas (including La boheme, L' elisir d'amore, Don Pasquale, Don Giovanni), American operas (including Susannah, Street Scene, Little Women), and musical theater (including Oklahoma!, Sweeny Todd, Man of La Mancha, and The Secret Garden.) The performance will feature Sonia Rodriguez Bermejo (soprano), Donald Groves (tenor), Jeffrey Monette (baritone) and N. Taylor Baldwin (piano).

In addition to a performance at the Officer's Club at 8 PM, the Opera Express artists will perform An Aesop Odyssey at Hood Street Elementary and C.C. Pinckney Elementary schools on Friday, Feb. 24 as part of this program.

"Through Great American Voices, the NEA is building bridges between the military and arts community," said NEA Chairman Dana Gioia. "This tour gives singers a chance to perform for new audiences and brings great music in live performance to military families."

Great American Voices is presented in coordination with the Department of Defense and Opera America. Great American Voices is made possible by The Boeing Company.
