Madison’s Bar Announces Fundraising Fridays to Help Non-Profit Neighbors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Madison’s, an Uptown bar on E. Fifth Street, today announced it will host “Fundraising Fridays,” a weekly event kicking off July 10 to benefit local non-profit neighbors hurt by budget cuts and a tough economy.
“Every day we hear about yet another non-profit hurt by the recession – some of them our Uptown neighbors,” said Tommy Timmins, co-owner of Madison’s, Connolly’s, The Attic and Tyber Creek Pub. “With Fundraising Fridays, we hope to help these organizations increase their donor base and play a small part in their turnaround.”
Beginning July 10, Fundraising Fridays will run for eight weeks, four in July and four in August. The after work socials, which run from 6-9 p.m. with a cover charge of $10 that goes directly to the charity, will offer $2 Bud Light and $4 wine specials.
The first four benefiting organizations include:
July 10: Community Health Services, a Fifth Street neighbor, provides preventive health care for children and adults with limited means in Charlotte. www.chs-nc.org
July 17: King’s Kitchen, a faith-based, not-for-profit, public restaurant opening in Uptown later this year that will donate all profits to existing hunger and homeless organizations. www.kingskitchen.org
July 24: Opera Carolina, which performs at the Blumenthal’s Belk Theater next door to Madison’s, is the largest professional opera company in the Carolinas and suffered significant cuts from the Arts & Science Council. www.operacarolina.org
July 31: Mecklenburg County Boy Scouts of America, headquartered Uptown on E. Seventh Street, that has reportedly been one of the hardest hit by the United Way cuts. www.mccscouting.org
