Opera Carolina’s 2008 production of Gounod’s Faust will air on the nationally syndicated NPR program World of Opera. Opera Carolina joins ranks of international opera companies such as La Scala, Vienna State Opera, and Covent Garden on this prestigious program, now produced from our very own WDAV. Opera Carolina is one of a few US operas companies to be featured on World of Opera, other US companies include Washington National Opera and Houston Grand Opera. About the Production: This lush drama by Gounod is surely the most popular musical representation of the immortal story of Faust, who confronts the hellish consequences of his own weakness when the devil makes him an offer he can't refuse -- but probably should have. Cast: Maureen O'Flynn (Marguerite); James Valenti (Faust); Chester Patton (Mephistopheles); Corey McKern (Valentin); Diane McEwen-Martin (Siébel); Jeremy Collier ( Wagner); Kim Blanchard (Marthe), the Opera Carolina Chorus with the Charlotte Symphony, James Meena, conductor. To listen, tune into WDAV 89.9FM (Charlotte region) or listen online at wdav.org.
