Event description: Opera Carolina opened its 2005-2006 season with its inaugural Bella Notte Passion and Pearls Gala Saturday, October 15, 2005. Held at the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the event was sold out by late summer. Cocktails were served among surroundings from the season’s opening opera, The Pearl Fishers, set in ancient Ceylon. Guest then moved to the stage where they dined on the set of The Pearl Fishers, and then danced with the sound of Peter Duchin and his Orchestra. Highlighted with special performances by Jennifer Welch-Babidge, Diane Alexander and Adriana Zabala, along with opera and jazz by internationally acclaimed opera great Denyce Graves, the evening set the tone for an exciting season of opera in Charlotte.
