Turandot: The Ultimate Femme Fatale
The women of opera have never had it easy. Sacrificed on the altar of love or vehemently pursued by licentious men, leading ladies are almost always the first to bite the dust. Princess Turandot, however, is an exception to the rule. Renowned for a beauty that masks an icy heart, Turandot kills her suitors before they can even clear their throats to begin their songs of love and devotion.
Before there was Sharon Stone, there was Turandot.
Internationally acclaimed soprano Lori Phillips (Opera National De Paris) returns to Charlotte as the formidable Turandot. The New York Times recently stated, “Both vocally and dramatically, Lori Phillips endowed her Turandot with the icy imperiousness the role demands...it was difficult not to admire her dark timbre and the sheer power she produced.” Joining Ms. Phillips is Jee Hyun Lim (New York City Opera) and Roy Cornelius Smith (Royal Opera Covent Garden).
Sung in Italian with projected English Titles.
