What is Opera Express?

Opera Express, Opera Carolina's educational touring company, engages children and families throughout the Carolinas with professional performances of opera for young people. These delightful productions help students understand and appreciate opera as an art form that integrates all of the fine arts and humanities and help teachers use opera as a classroom resource. Performances are tailored to K-5 age groups with study guide activities that address NC curriculum standards in English Language Arts, Music, and more.

Since 1971, Opera Express has served more than one million children with such favorites as The Billy Goats Gruff, An Aesop Odyssey, Pinocchio, How Nanita Learned to Make Flan, and more.

2012-13 Touring Season

The Magic Flute

The Magic Flute

Prince Tamino has just woken up from the spell the Three Ladies placed him under, meeting the bubbly birdcather, Papageno. Returning to the Prince's side, the Three Ladies charge him with saving the lovely Princess Pamina, who is the Queen's daughter; Papageno is recruited for the quest too. Armed with a magic flute and bells, they set off to rescue the Princess, but not without facing a few challenges, of course!

This young person's version of Mozart's magical opera is appropriate for grades K-7 and is performed right in your school. Standards for English Language Arts, Social Studies, Music, and more are integrated into the performance and its educational materials.
