2011 Summer Music-Drama Workshop Details
Opera Carolina and the Community School of the Arts continue their partnership with the second annual Opera Carolina Academy Summer Music-Drama Workshop. The Workshop will host two one week sessions (June 20-24 & June 27-July 1) of Vocal and Music-Drama Instruction from 9:00am to 2:00pm at Spirit Square, Charlotte, NC.
The Music-Drama curriculum will include elementary instruction in stage combat, stagecraft skills, theater exercises & games, musical interpretation & orchestral improv, movement & elementary group dance, in addition to some scenes/skit work.
The Singing technique curriculum will include basic instruction in proper breathing; laryngeal positioning & relaxation; practice exercises & tactics; song interpretation; and care of the voice. In addition to regular class instruction, students may also qualify (if they choose) to participate in master classes with internationally recognized opera stars.
Space is limited for the Workshop
Current Academy voice students and 2010 Workshop participants may register immediately for either or both sessions.
New students must audition and be accepted into the program before they may register. Once accepted into the Academy, new students may register for the Ūrst workshop session (June 20-24). Upon successful completion of the first session and pending enrollment space, these new students may then also participate in the second session June 27-July 1.
Auditions
New students may register for an audition slot on the Community School of the Arts website.
Auditions for new students will be held at Spirit Square on the following dates.
